More photos of Missouri River through-paddlers Jay and Bryan, paddling past Kansas City last Wednesday on their long haul from Montana to St Louis. These two met on the river and decided to paddle together. It was a great pleasure joining for a 26 hour mini-adventure on the Big Muddy. If I remember correctly, this was Jay's Day 100 and 101, but I may be a day off on that. They expect to reach St Louis next Friday to complete this epic expedition.
We started earlier that morning from Parkville and paddled through fog to Kaw Point for a quick walk around the tributes to the Louis and Clark expedition that stopped there in June of 1804. Then continued downriver, enjoying the sights and conversations along the way. Both paddlers agreed that this long expedition was more challenging than expected in some ways, aiming for around 40 miles day after day, now in sweltering heat. ... See MoreSee Less

Missouri River through-paddlers Jay and Brian are heading to Kaw Point after a very foggy launch from near Parkville. I met them to enjoy a small section of the river with them. They started in Montana and are finishing in St Louis. We went for some great KC BBQ last night, and a view of the city. ... See MoreSee Less

Our second day of paddling the Current River was a wonderful quick nine miles in three hours, with clear water, fish and more fish, a bald eagle, green herons and many other birds, one shark, and an Ozark piranhas feeding frenzy. This was a fun boat swap day, to compare two fourteen foot kayaks and a twelve foot kayak while practicing edging and maneuvering in each. A beautiful day, all around!
Next up: Monday Night Leisure Paddle, then Wednesday Choice Paddle.
