Kansas City paddles
Paddle KC members love paddling local (Missouri AND Kansas!) lakes, rivers and streams as often as possible. Relaxing leisure paddles, workouts and distance paddles, special adventures, and exploring waters in every season. We have a great time every month of the year!
Weekends & trips
From weekends in the Ozarks and neighboring states, to “bucket list” trips to paddling destinations – we love to travel and paddle new places. Relaxing river day floats or multi-day kayak/SUP camping, sea kayaking trips for experienced paddlers, and whitewater!
Skills & Safety
Paddle KC offers many ways to learn and improve paddling and safety skills. We host informal learning during events, ACA skills courses, online or in-person clinics, and Show & Tell sessions. Our fun activities are well-planned, including recommended pandemic safety measures.

When winter returns and paddling fun slows down (or stops, for most people) I make extra effort to really appreciate each time on the water. Yesterday was cold and overcast for our intervals workout training and ended in rain, and was a beautiful wintery experience.
We did 15 intervals at Lake Jacomo, then paddled to the marina to look around, then watched a Bald Eagle in a treetop watching us, then did some maneuvers through the giant sailboat buoys, then paddled back while sprinkles turned to rain in the mid-30s temps. I was thankful for my comfortable drysuit and wool hat. Our workout was 1.5 miles of our 5.8 mile total - nice mix!

Join us on the water this afternoon for kayak intervals workout (HIIT for paddlers!). All speeds are welcome and cold water gear is required. Water temps are in 40s now. See details in comments. ... See MoreSee Less
Wearing cold water paddling gear is only one part of cold water paddling safety, as this sad story illustrates. Water of 12°C is 53°F and our local lake waters are around 44-48°F as of December 1.
Cold water paddling safety requires
1) Apropriate cold water gear (drysuit recommended, wetsuit only after you swim test it to see how dangerously cold you get).
2) ALWAYS wearing life jackets, properly fitted and fastened.
3) Paddling with experienced, safety-trained paddlers wearing life jackets over cold water gear (who are able and ready to handle unexpected issues that quickly turn into emergencies in cold water).
3) Paddling below skill level.

Many thanks to our friends at Aqua Bound and Bending Branches for visiting our paddling club last Monday to talk about paddles for kayaking, paddleboarding and canoeing! Also thanks to The Big Rip Brewing Company and Hawg Jaw Que & Brew for hospitality, drinks and food!
We learned interesting and helpful info about how they build paddles, differences to consider, options for different paddling styles, and more. Congrats to winners of 4 raffle prizes! A lot of Paddle KC members went home extra-happy with new upgraded paddles at aMAZing club discounts (thanks again, Aqua Bound)!
It's always good to see everyone off the water. Come out to our next Happy Hour Meet & Greet on Tuesday December 19!
